Redskins Football: There is no "off" in Off-Season
The Hurricane Redskin football team held their First Ever "Pre-Liftathon friends and family event" Friday Night. Boosted by the unseasonable warm temperatures, a good crowd attended the event held on Redskin Field.
Players showed off the progress they have made since the season's conclusion in Squats, Bench, 40 and L-Drill.
Payton Lunsford and Blake Ross both squatted better than 400 lbs, and Lunsford led the pack on the bench as well. As expected Hurricane's newcomer Caron Cordon had the fastest 40 time, but the Coaches were most impressed that 10 Redskins posted sub 5.0 times.
Equally impressive were the improvements across the board by the team in general, a testament to the hard work that has been done thus far since the final gun of a disappointing loss @ Morgantown eliminated the Skins from the playoffs.
But Friday night was not about reflecting on the past as much as it was about preparing for the future. Some say that hard work put in during the Off Season is worth a win or two the next season. If this is true than perhaps these Redskins, working hard this winter, will be hosting playoff games in November.
The coaching staff singled out several players who made huge strides since December, but the single largest improvement may be Seth Mitchell's 120lb increase in squats.
The night was a success as players, coaches and fans seemed to enjoy this in nontraditional event, which I believe may become a standard in Hurricane Redskins future off seasons.
Finally it was great to see Coach Leadman back in Red and White. Welcome back!
