Hayes and Huntington Too Much for Redskins

Jadon Hayes rolled to a Huntington school record 323 leading the Highlanders to a 34-14 victory over the Redskins.

Huntington lived up to their #1 AAA ranking as for all intents and purposes had the game on hand by halftime with a comfortable 20-0 lead.

Early in the contest it appeared lead 2 even matched teams would be battling all night long.

However in what is becoming a frustrating trend, Hurricane could not finish drives. The Redskins moved the ball against the Highlanders' stout defense, driving the ball inside the Huntington 30 yard line the first 4 times they had the ball, only to come up empty.

On 2 drives the Redskins loss yardage on 3rd and short which left them out of field goal range.

Meanwhile Hurricane's defense was doing their best to keep Hayes and Huntington out of the end zone. Twice forcing the Highlanders to settle for field goals and a slim 6-0 lead midday through the 2nd quarter.

After another Redskins drive into Huntington territory stalled, coach Taylor opted for a punt, which looked like a good call when Walker James downed the ball at the 1 yard line. The Redskins fortunes would turn one play later.

Hayes ensured his candidacy for the Kennedy Award on a 99 yard run which took the wind out of the sails of the large home crowd, and perhaps the Redskins themselves, as just like that the deficit was 13-0.

After a long backbreaking 66 yard Hayes added his 2nd of 3 touchdown runs score and the 20-0 halftime score.

The teams would each tally twice in the 2nd half providing the final score of 34-14.

For the Redskins Nathan Roy (13-21-139-1-1) found Bo Adkins for his 3rd TD reception of the season, and Christian Hill (20-96) also had a TD run for Hurricane.

NOTES: Dakota Williams had 6 receptions for 60 yards.

Payton Lunsford led the Skins with 15 tackles. J.T. Cooper had 10 and Steven Shine 9.

Roy threw a strange interception that officials ruled hit Curon Cordon's foot prior to landing in a Highlanders defenders hands. It was only his 2nd INT of the season, and the game's only turnover.

Cole Bumgarner saw his first action since last season and his kickoff in the 2nd made it into the end zone for a touchback.

The Redskins (4-3) look to break their 2 game losing streak on Friday when they travel to Parkersburg.
