5 Redskins Named to All-Kanawha Valley

Christian Hill, Payton Lunsford, Dakota Williams, Curon Cordon, and Tim McCutchen were named to the All-Kanawha Valley team by the Charleston Gazette Mail on Friday.

Hill, a sophomore, ran for 1659 yards (the most this century by a Hurricane running back) on 274 carries. Hill, who ran hard behind a solid Redskin offensive line (which had no representation on All-Kanawha Valley), also tallied 14 touchdowns. I have said it before, Hill will be getting Kennedy Award consideration prior to graduating.

Payton Lunsford, a senior who served as one of Hurricane's captains, led the Redskins defense with 145 tackles and tied for tops with 16 tackles for loss.

Dakota Williams another Senior captain, put fear in opponent's defenses all season on his way to 40 receptions. Williams specialized in the big play as he amassed 877 receiving yards and 10 scores. Dakota had a huge game against State Champion representative Spring Valley as he scored 3 touchdowns and had a tad under 200 yards receiving.

Curon Cordon a senior known more for his offense prowess, made the team as a defensive back. Curon played one of the best games in a long time at CB for Hurricane against George Washington, a game in which he picked off two of Marshall commit, Grant Wells passes.

Last but not least is Tim McCutchen, a junior who handled all of Hurricane's kicking duties. McCutchen enjoyed his first season in the Red and White by nailing 8 field goals including a 40 yarder. He also was perfect on 40 PAT kicks and averaged nearly 33 yards per punt.

Although having 5 players named is wonderful one has to wonder if there were not others who may have been overlooked or snubbed by the writers.

Personally I think the Redskins offensive line was overlooked. Perhaps Cole Runion and/or Dalton Geter among others deserved a seat at the All-Kanawha Valley table. On the defensive side of the ball Steven Shine and J.T. Cooper certainly warranted serious consideration.
