Cameron Kimble: "I will be ready to hit someone in the mouth."

August 9, 2018

Cameron Kimble, a Redskin linebacker was asked to reflect on how it feels to be entering his senior season, he responded, "It went by way too fast." Certainly if playing for better than a decade has flown by, Kimble knows that he must cherish every minute of his final season in red and white.

Emotional when competing on the gridiron, Kimble takes most things in stride off the field. On the day we spoke, the defense practiced without a couple of their senior linebackers, a fact that Cameron looked at in a positive light. "It's all good, they will be alright, and guys are stepping in to show what they can do, while getting an opportunity to work at other positions." On this day Kimble worked at "Will" as opposed to his "Star" position.

"The D is looking good and as man guys that learn the scheme will make us better, how good would we be if 22 guys can play any position on the field?"

As summer practices move forward, Kimble also see some younger players that are stepping up and he sees as destined for a bright future. A couple of incoming freshman, Brogan Brown, and J.T. James have impressed him.

The newest Redskin, senior Riley Meadows, also impressed during his first practice in pads. "Riley looked good today and made some platys, he could really help us this season."

Kimble shared that he and fellow senior linebacker J.T. Cooper share a common goal, "we each want at least 150 tackles this year." A lofty goal but Kimble sights Payton Lunsford's 145 stops in 2017 as incentive that it is a goal that can be attained.  The duo registered 240 tackles combined last season finishing 2nd and 3rd on the the team.

Most importantly Kimble wants to remain healthy and knows that the number of tackles he makes and the number of games the Redskins win will take care of themselves.

Cameron would love to play at the next level, and is excited to see what interest he receives from DII or FCS schools.

When asked about some teams on the schedule that he is looking forward to squaring off against he offered, "Cabell Midland, as usual, it will be nice to get them back here at Hurricane this year and see how it goes." As far as his thoughts on the opener across town at Winfield? "After all the hype I will be ready to hit someone in the mouth."
