Hurricane Pulls Away late to Defeat Riverside 27-3 in Final Scrimmage

Hurricane found themselves tied with Riverside 3-3 at Halftime in today's scrimmage at Laidley Field. After 3 quarters with both teams playing fewer and fewer 1st teamers the score was 6-3 Redskins.

A couple Freshman, Chase Hager and Ismael Borerro found the endzone 3 times in the 4th quarter to provide the final cushion.

Riverside drove the ball deep into Redskin territory on a 13 play opening drive, but Hurricane's defense stiffened forcing a FG attempt that resulted in the Warriors only points on the day.

However Hurricane did little on offense, although they looked crisper than a week ago, they were playing without Blake Ross, and Bomani Brooks, both expected to be ready for Winfield.

After punting the ball back to the Warriors, Riverside once again had a nice drive working when they faced 4th and 1 at the Skins 30 yard line. J.T. Cooper, who had sat at last week's scrimmage vs. Parkersburg South, burst though the line and dropped Caden Easterling for a huge loss. Cooper appears ready for the regular season, as he accounted for 12 tackles and 2 sacks in one half of action.

On Hurricane's 3rd drive of the half, Austin Womack found Nate Barham for a 47 yard completion down to the Riverside 13 yard line, but the drive stalled and Tim McCutchen was called on to tie the game at 3 all with a 25 yard FG.

Early in the 2nd half Womack found Chase Hager for 2 completions totaling 46 yards setting up another short McCutchen FG to give the Redskins their first lead 6-3. Hager, only a freshman, appears more and more to have secured a significant role within the Redskins offense.

By the 4th quarter, and with the game taking on a JV feel, the Redskins proved to have the better athletes on the field as Hager carried 3 times for 27 yards, his last carry providing the first TD of the game, as he ran it in from 9 yards. After two Riverside fumbles recovered by Brogan Brown and Cord Midkiff, Borerro showed his elusiveness and speed, scoring touchdowns from 18 and 34 yards out.

NOTES: Abel Cunningham forced a key fumble in the 1st half, recovered by Kryzstof Kudlak.

Riley Meadows recorded a sack.

Isiah Williams had 77 yards rushing to lead the Redskins.

Hager accounted for 86 yards from scimmage

McCutchen was 3-3 on PATS 2-3 FG as he missed from 51 yards out.

Riverside out gained Hurricane 179-61 in the 1st half. Total yardage by game's end had Hurricane with a 309-193 advantage.
