Capital takes advantage of Hurricane miscues defeats Redskins 49-10

When sharing his pre-game thoughts, Coach Taylor expressed a few accurate thoughts.

He said it was up to his defense to keep Hurricane in the game against the most prolific offense in the state. The Skins D was up to the task. In a stunning performance Hurricane's stop unit played an awesome half of football.

Capital's 5 first half drives ended this way:

3 and out

Goal Line stand

Fumble

Interception

Turnover on downs

So the Redskins were shutting out the Cougars at the half? Enjoying a 3-0 lead thanks to Tim McCutchen's 35 yard Field Goal? Well as the late Lee Corso used to say...not so fast my friend. Wait Lee Corso is still alive....Sorry Lee.

Coach Taylor also commented "we cant give them cheap points and expect to win, we have to limit self inflicted errors." Coach unfortunately turned out to be a prophet again on this one.

Capital scored 3 touchdowns and collected a safety in the first half to put up 22 cheap points.

Blocked punt for a TD

Safety (after Hurricane's goal line stand)

Kick off return for a TD (following the safety)

Interception return for a TD

As the 2nd half started Capital was able to dent the Redskins defense and scored on a Kerry Martin Jr td pass to increase their lead to 29-3.

Hurricane then scored their only touchdown in the last 2 games as Nathan Roy, in for stating QB Austin Womack, found J.T. Cooper wide open for a short TD pass. It was Cooper's first career reception and first career touchdown.

With the lead cut to 29-10 and after the defense held Capital, the offense gave the bay back to Capital at the 1 yard line after an errant snap. A short TD on the next play iced the victory for the Cougars.

Notes: Earin Kerwood made his first career start. Ismael Borrero got his first varsity snaps at QB late in the 4th quarter. Cole Stover played his first career snaps on defense..
