Hurricane Rips St. Albans 63-0 secures Playoff spot
Hurricane did what was necessary Friday night against an overmatched Red Dragon team.
In fact after 5 plays from Scrimmage Hurricane had scored 3 times. The onslaught began on the Redskins first play when Nathan Roy (2-3-47-2TDs) found RJ Engel for a 36 yard TD pass.
After a 2nd 3 and out forced by the Redskin defense, Christian Hill (13-145-2tds) carried 3 times the last resulting in Hurricane's 2nd touchdown of the game.
The Next time Hurricane touched the ball Austin Womack threw his lone pass of the game hooking up with Nate Barham on a 65 yard score and the rout was on.
The defense added to the scoring as J.T. Cooper pressured the Red Dragon QB in the end zone and when he was called for intentionally grounding the Skins were rewarded a safety.
At that point Coach Taylor rewarded his defensive stalwart with the opportunity to play a little Quarterback???! Cooper responded with a 14 yard run, and an incomplete and ugly pass intended for Kryzsatof Kudlak, prior to running for a 9 yard score.
Hill would find the end zone again for his 10th TD rush of the season, Isiah Williams, and Jordan Williams also added rushing scores, and Roy found Kudlak for his 2nd TD pass on the night.
Cooper scored again from his more familiar side of the ball as he returned an interception 81 yards for a score, Hurricane's only Pick 6 of the season. Other take-aways included an interception by Abel Cunningham, and fumble recoveries by Walker James, and Riley Meadows, who made his first varsity start of the season.
NOTES: Tim McCutchen was 6 for 6 on PATS before giving way to Meadows who was 1-3.
With the game well in hand and playing on a running clock, DC Pratt allowed Cooper to take over the coaching responsibilities for the defense. With the pressure on Cooper pulled the correct strings allowing the back-up unit preserve Hurricane's first shutout of the season.
When the fun and games ended the Redskins finished with the #16 seed and will face perennial power Martinsburg in the 1st round off the playoffs on Saturday.
