The War on 34!

In less than 48 hours the Hurricane Redskins will kick off their season against their long time rival the Winfield Generals. Bring on the War on 34.

The history of this contest has been very one sided, especially in recent years.

Hurricane has won 7 in a row

Last Winfield victory was in 2009 17-16.

Last Winfield win at Hurricane was in 1990

The Redskins have won each of the last 12 games played in Hurricane.

Impressive but there is more:

Hurricane has won 21 of the last 22 games against Winfield.

During this time Hurricane has outscored Winfield 624-168

Hurricane has shut out Winfield 7 times since 1993.

So this game will be no contest correct? Not so fast my friends.

The Generals are coming off a season which ended with a AA playoff appearance, the first for Winfield since 2005. And unlike the Redskins, who will start their 5th different QB in the last 5 seasons, the Generals return duel threat QB Andrew Huff.

Huff, a 4-year starter, set a school record last year passing for 1839 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also ran for an unexpected 1129 yards. Sharing the load in the backfield is RB Zach Bratton who added 899 rushing yards. "Winfield is a very good team that has improved every year we have played them. They always bring their A game against us and this Friday night will be no different," offers Hurricane Coach Jeremy Taylor.

In fact Winfield is ranked 7th in AA with most expecting them to return to the playoffs again this season. However, Hurricane is most likely the best team on the Generals schedule. Not only are the Redskins the only AAA opponent the Gens will face, they were also a playoff team in 2016 that reached the Elite Eight a year ago.

Playing on the turf at Redskins Stadium, dont look for the Generals to be able to contain the speed of the Redskins, especially that of Dakota Williams and Curon Cordon.

While you can be certain that Defensive Coordinator Jason Pratt will devise a scheme to make things difficult for Huff and the Gens. We look for Huff to become quite acquainted with the likes of J.T. Cooper, Steven Shine, and Payton Lunsford.

Similar to last season look for Hurricane to strike first, have Winfield battle them tough early and then pull away late.

Hurricane secures victory #1 by a score of 33-12.
